Welcome to the Ann Arbor Flyers

The Ann Arbor Flyers has always been a not-for-profit club dedicated to making flying affordable and accessible to everyone. The club operates as a partnership in that each member is a partial owner of the fleet of aircraft with a fully refundable equity purchase. Our bylaws limit the membership to a maximum of sixty (60) shareholders who own our airplanes. Currently we own a 1989 Piper Archer II, two Archer III’s, and the flagship of our fleet, a 1984 Piper Saratoga, all hangared at the Ann Arbor airport.  We are the only flight club in metro Detroit that offers student training at significant savings and where our CFIs teach beyond the standard.

We’ve relied solely on members’ dues and aircraft hourly rates from our planes to keep us financially solvent for over 75 years. We are a member-driven organization and depend on our members to keep the club organized and operating efficiently. We are safety conscious and keep our planes professionally maintained at all times. The membership prides itself on working together with numerous committees (e.g., ADS-B upgrades, fleet evaluation, etc.), which ensures we are continually moving ourselves forward with FAA requirements and aircraft upgrades.

Our introductory flight is an ideal way to discover the joy of flying and learn more about our club. You’ll learn about aircraft, instruments, navigation systems, and safety. A professional FAA-certified flight instructor will guide you throughout the introductory flying lesson. Once airborne you’ll take over the controls to enjoy flying a plane for about 40-45 minutes.

We extend a warm welcome to new members from anywhere and from all walks of life.  Please contact us to ask any questions you might have.

About AAF

The Ann Arbor Flyers is one of the oldest aviation clubs in the country, having been in continuous operation since its inception in October of 1940. Our membership is made up of a diverse group of men and women who pride themselves in setting high standards for safety, proficiency, and equipment maintenance.

AAF Aircraft

Club members are equity share owners of four modern, well-equipped and well-maintained aircraft. All of our aircraft are comfortably equipped for cross-country IFR flight. With a maximum club size of 60 members, members have excellent access to these four aircraft.
